The New Six Gun: Smart PhonesBy
As a Realtor there is a huge list of things that are vital to keeping your business thriving and your clients happy. Generating leads, cultivating a client relationship from those leads and keeping your clients satisfied are probably the three most important things on your Realtor to-do list, aside from actually listing and selling real estate of course! Trying to keep up with everything and everyone is incredibly hard work, so what can you do to make it easier on yourself? Get a smart phone. Seriously.
While a handwritten note is a lovely gesture, the time and energy it diverts away from all the other things waiting on your daily to-do list is completely impractical. Most clients would rather receive short, friendly email once a week than a time intensive card once a month, and it is even better for your business if they can actually see what you are doing for them via blogging and networking sites on a daily basis. In short, the Realtor that is the most available, and responds the best and the fastest, wins. It’s a little like a six gun shoot-out in the old west, except instead of the fastest draw and fire it’s the fastest text and email. And the weapon of choice? You got it! The smart phone.
The smart phone is the wonder-kid of modern technology. They have the ability to function as a phone, camera, computer and GPS all in a pocket sized package. Think about it this way: They are the ultimate key to successful real estate deals and happy clients.
Still not convinced? Let’s put it into perspective. Say you are showing a client a house and they mention that they happen to have seen one about two blocks over that seemed more suited to their taste. Quick! What do you do next? Well, if you don’t have a smart phone, you question the client about the sign in the yard and the exact address. You drive by the house, write down the address, company name and then drag everyone back to your office and try to pull the house up online. After searching for a while you discover that the house in question belongs to another agency that you are completely unfamiliar with. You call them and try to arrange to show it, but are told that the agents are all out with clients and will not be back in the office until much later. Now several hours later your client is frustrated, you are tired and you still have not been able to show the house. Welcome to the unhappy world of the hand-written note card.
But with a smart phone? Now that’s a different story altogether! Rewind to the beginning and let’s start over, with the smart phone. After pulling out your trusty iPhone, (the new ones are amazing!) you quickly snap a photo of the house you are showing to keep visual track for your client, then immediately pull up your MLS and search for it, which takes less than five seconds. You then have the name, contact information and background for the company that has the listing as well as the photos and price. After a quick call or text message to the listing agent’s cell phone, you have the agent meeting you there with your ecstatic client ,who now thinks you are the Einstein of Realtors. And one better? Pull up Google maps and pop in the address for turn by turn directions. Now your are Einstein and Daniel Boone rolled into one, and your client loves you forever. The whole thing takes less than three minutes, five if you text really slow. The other great thing? You can post the whole thing to your blog on Active Rain, tweet it on Twitter and post it to Facebook and Linked-In in less time than it takes you to say, “Now where did I put those note cards?”
So do you really need a smart phone in real estate? Yes, you do! So toss out the note cards and choose your weapon!… umm… phone.;)
