If you haven’t heard, this year has un-officially been recognized as the year of mobile technology. Why? Let’s start off with the facts as we know them:
-In 2009 42% of REALTORS® used a smartphone daily or almost daily. This is a 8% increase from the previous year which would lead me to belive that over 50% of REALTORS® will be using smartphones by the end of 2010.
-Smartphone prices have dropped substantually thanks to innovative mobile software platforms such as Google’s Android. You can now purchase a smartphone for as low as $69.99 from T-Mobile.
-Last year, Yankee Group forcasted that 41% of U.S. consumers were likely to choose a smartphone for their next phone purchase. We’re realizing that forecast now.
-The most startling fact? According to the highly respected company Nielsen, currently 1 in 5 Americans own and use a smartphone and by the end of 2010 it will be 1 in 3. Nielsen projects that by the end of the third quarter of 2011, half of all Americans will own a smartphone.
What does this mean for the real estate agent (ie:You)? Regardless of your personal preference, or technical know how, consumers are going to expect you to have some sort of mobile offering. You probably have clients now that ask if you’re on facebook, twitter, google buzz, or have a blog they can follow.
